The University of Nairobi Engineering and Science Complex (ESC) showcased its transformative initiatives during the African Forward Youth Innovation Day held as part of Nairobi Innovation Week 2026, held at the University of Nairobi Main Campus on July 14, 2026. The showcase reaffirmed the ESC commitment to advancing research, innovation and university–industry collaboration.
A key highlight was the visit by the Chief Guest, French Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Arnaud Suquet, who, accompanied by the University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Eng. Prof. Ayub Gitau and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Enterprise), Prof. Margaret J. Hutchinson, viewed the model of the Engineering and Science Complex building, which is expected to be constructed soon. The model was officially launched by the President of France during the Africa Forward Summit in May 2026, symbolizing the growing partnership between Kenya and France in advancing science, technology, engineering, and innovation.
Another major highlight was the Energy Chair Panel Session, which brought together leaders from academia and industry to explore the role of university–industry partnerships in shaping Africa's sustainable energy future. Discussions emphasised the importance of bridging the gap between universities and industry through collaborative research, problem-based learning, mentorship, and technology development.
The panel underscored the need to equip graduates with practical skills, entrepreneurial mindsets, and digital competencies required to thrive in the rapidly evolving green economy.
