The seven day 2022 Nairobi International Trade Fair (NITF) which begun in earnest on September 26, 2022 provided a platform for the University to showcase its innovative and transformative technologies in offering quality and world class education, in line with NITF’s theme “Promoting innovation and technology in Agriculture and Trade.
The University performed exceptionally in six out of the seven categories it had enrolled. UoN was awarded the best University stand for creative translation of the overall theme and best Innovative and Inventive stand for various innovative projects, among them process products made from mango fruit and mango waste valorisation such as varsity mango wine, varsity mango juice and crisp. UoN emerged second under the category for the best stand in youth activities, empowerment and capacity building for its project in designing water hyacinth furniture among fishing communities as a form of youth empowerment. The project seeks to partner with fishing communities to implement a scalable, replicable and economically-viable strategy to engage disadvantaged fishers, their families and local businesses. The UoN exhibition stand was also awarded as the best in Research and Development as well as in promoting National Cohesion and Integration Development.
The University's Information Technology and Communication Systems Stand scooped position 3 in as the best in embracing Information Technology and Communication Systems. The judges were impressed with the University's digitally enhanced beehive that helps control different aspects of the beehive-like the humidity and temperature. The enhanced beehive also has a weight sensor that alerts the farmer when the honey is ready for Harvesting.
