The University of Nairobi signed a partnership agreement with Ecomobilus Ltd on April 21, 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Boardroom, marking the launch of the first Industrial Chair under the Engineering and Science Complex (ESC) Communities of Excellence (CoEs).
The Industrial Chair model brings together academia, industry, and international partners to co-develop curricula, strengthen applied research, and enhance innovation. The inaugural Chair Clean, Affordable and Reliable Energy (CAREn) is jointly led by the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Science and Technology under Prof. John Obiero and Prof. Francis Nyongesa.
The CAREn Chair will focus on energy access, digitalisation and security of energy systems, and supply chain and lifecycle management. The partnership with Ecomobilus supports the supply chain pillar, with implementation led by Prof. Siphila Mumenya, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. The initiative is further strengthened through collaboration with CentraleSupélec, a globally recognized French engineering institution and support from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
This milestone sets the foundation for scaling Industrial Chairs across other CoEs, positioning UoN as a leader in industry-integrated education, research, and innovation.
