Changemakers School 3rd Edition Champions Climate-Resilient Infrastructure

Changemakers School 3rd Edition participants at Safari Park.

The third edition of the Changemakers School was held from July 21 to 24, 2025, at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, bringing together professionals and decision-makers from the transport, water, energy, and ICT sectors for an intensive masterclass on climate-resilient infrastructure.

Led by Prof. Daniel Olago of the University of Nairobi’s Institute for Climate Change and Adaptation (ICCA), the training focused on equipping participants with practical skills, actionable strategies, and cross-sectoral networks to mainstream climate adaptation into infrastructure planning and implementation across Africa.

Over the four-day program, participants engaged in immersive sessions that explored:

  • The impacts of climate change on infrastructure systems,
  • Tools and frameworks for climate risk assessment and resilience building,
  • Case studies showcasing effective adaptation measures, and
  • Opportunities for scaling up finance and policy alignment to support sustainable infrastructure.

The workshop also provided a platform for collaborative learning, peer exchange, and the development of sector-specific action plans.

The Changemakers School is a flagship initiative under the African Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP), jointly implemented by the African Development Bank and the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA). The program aims to mobilize $25 billion to accelerate climate adaptation across Africa, with a strong focus on resilient infrastructure as a key enabler of economic and social stability.

The University of Nairobi is proud to be a leading academic partner in driving forward this vital agenda.
