There is good progress towards the implementation of the University of Nairobi Engineering and Science Complex (ESC). This was revealed by Mr. Bertrand Willocquet, the new AFD Kenya County Director when he paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama.
Mr. Bertrand informed the Vice Chancellor that AFD is waiting for UoN to sign the subsidiary agreement with the National Treasury before the actual implementation of the project starts. He however noted that the Academic collaboration agreement between the University of Nairobi and the French Universities –Paristech and Paris Saclay has been signed to facilitate capacity building and curriculum development.
By September 2022, the project will receive an industry and academia expert to support the operationalization of industry-academia partnership in the complex this will be done through the support of the French embassy. The expert will be based at the Directorate of University Advancement and Institutional Development.
The Engineering and Science Complex is expected to revolutionize engineering and science training in Africa. It will benefit from the synergy of housing natural sciences, technology, and engineering programs under one roof. Students will also benefit from the interaction with the Industry in the complex.
Present during the meeting were Mr. Brian Ouma, Chief Operations Officer, John Orindi, Director of Corporate Affairs, and Ms. Anne Nkoidila from the Directorate of University Advancement. The AFD Country Director was accompanied by Mr. Loran Meme, Program Officer, and Dr. Guerin Mathieu, the Education Attaché at the French Embassy.
