The third Joint Management Committee (JMC3) meeting of the GREEN-STEM Project took place on November 17, 2025, at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. The gathering brought together representatives from all partner universities, project leadership, student beneficiaries and members of the Expert Validation Committee. The meeting served as a key platform for collaboration, oversight and strategic planning as the project enters its next phase.
JMC3 provided an opportunity for the consortium to review progress, evaluate ongoing mobility activities, address emerging challenges, and agree on priorities for the forthcoming implementation period. Discussions centred on academic and administrative alignment, student welfare and inclusion, mobility outcomes and strengthening pathways for industry engagement and alumni participation.
During the meeting, several notable achievements and outcomes were highlighted:
- Enhanced coordination across institutions: Partners reported improved collaboration, leading to stronger governance structures and more efficient project operations.
- Comprehensive mobility review: The committee confirmed the status of completed, ongoing and upcoming student exchanges, noting significant progress in promoting gender balance and inclusion.
- Student experience insights: First-hand feedback from student beneficiaries was consolidated to guide enhancements in academic, social and logistical support across host institutions.
- Strategic recommendations: Members proposed harmonised vulnerability assessment tools, clearer reintegration pathways for returning students and structured mechanisms to engage alumni as project ambassadors.
- Recognition of project impact: GREEN-STEM was acknowledged as an emerging model for regional academic mobility, with frameworks and best practices that can be adapted and scaled across the African continent.
Through the JMC3 meeting, the consortium reaffirmed its shared commitment to strengthening Africa’s STEM landscape, advancing green and sustainable development and ensuring equitable, high-quality opportunities for students across the region.
