The University of Nairobi’s Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) team recently organised a four-day Cost-Benefit Analysis workshop in Naivasha, from 19 to 22 August 2025, bringing together experts and stakeholders from the Transport, Energy, Water, and ICT sectors to promote climate risk management solutions for Kenya.
The workshop began with a recap of the adaptation process and proceeded to sessions on climate hazard analysis and risk assessment of critical infrastructure such as roads. Participants examined both direct impacts, such as infrastructure damage, and indirect impacts, such as service disruptions, before developing adaptation solutions categorized into gray (engineering) and green (nature-based) options.
To prioritize these solutions, the team applied Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) for monetary evaluation and a stakeholder-driven Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA) incorporating social and ecological values, narrowing a broad set of ideas into key projects that will enhance Kenya’s climate resilience.
