The University of Nairobi held its 66th graduation ceremony on 17th December, 2021. On this occasion, the University celebrated the hard work of 6,647 graduands, ushering them out into the world to utilize their knowledge, skills and behaviour to build the nation and serve their communities.
Speaking during the 66th graduation ceremony, the Chancellor, University of Nairobi, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, urged the graduating class to always remain determined and hopeful.
The University of Nairobi and Elgon Kenya Ltd have entered into a collaborative agreement with the goal of establishing an Agricultural Technology and Innovation Centre (ATIC) at Upper Kabete Campus. This collaborative venture was born out of the need to foster the culture of innovation, promote resource mobilization for development and commercialization of market-demanded products and services, need to train and mentor innovators/entrepreneurs in order to increase chances of commercial success and to accelerate uptake of technology along the agricultural value chains.
The Director of University Advancement and Institutional Development Mr. Brian Ouma, took a tour of the on-going sericulture project at Upper Kabete Project. He was taken round to the silk worm housing units, and the mulberry trees plantation.
The project is a joint collaboration between the University of Nairobi and Silk Origin Ltd. The production of silk will help generate revenue for the university.
The Government of Kenya and French Development Agency (AFD) have signed two financing agreements to the tune of Kshs. 4.6 B aiming to improve and open up available academic training in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in Kenya.
The University of Nairobi held its 65th Graduation Ceremony on 24th September 2021. The ceremony was virtual in regard to the COVID-19 Protocols.
The ceremony saw the awarding of the Higher Doctor of Science (DSC) Degree to Prof. Fredrick Were, the 7th recipient of a higher doctorate degree of the University of Nairobi.
The University of Nairobi in partnership with other institutions has received funding from the Germany Government to conduct a 3-year project on solutions to food insecurity and malnutrition. On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, a team from Strengthening Urban REsilience in FOOD and nutrition security in Kenya paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama, and briefed him on the SURE Food project launch. Also present was the Director of University Advancement and Institutional Development, Mr. Brian Ouma.
The University of Nairobi has been ranked Number 1 in Kenya, 11th in Africa and in the 501-600 category globally among the best universities by Times Higher Education (THE) in the just released World Universities Ranking 2022 report. This is a momentous improvement from last year’s ranking, in which UoN emerged 601-800.
The University of Nairobi has renewed its collaboration with the Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Training (CPST) for another 5 years to offer its fit for purpose and relevant programmes to Parliamentarians and Staff of Parliament. The programmes include Parliamentary democracy and governance, diplomacy and conflict management. Through the agreement, Members of Parliament and staff of Parliament will have the opportunity to acquire diplomas and post graduate qualifications from the University of Nairobi.
The University of Nairobi has been ranked best university in the country and in the East and Central Africa Region for more than 5 years in row in the just released Webometrics Ranking. The Ranking Web of Universities (Webometrics) has released the July 2021 edition of the Webometrics report placing the University of Nairobi position 1 in Kenya, 13 in Africa and 1054 in the world.
