The 64th Graduation Ceremony

The Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi has conferred honorary degrees of the University of Nairobi on Prof. Julia Ojiambo, Chair of Council and Prof. Micere Mugo at the 64th Graduation Ceremony. The two have now joined the list of eminent persons who have received the prestigious award bringing the number of honorary degree holders of the University of Nairobi to 35. In addition, a record 5,709 have been conferred degrees and awarded diplomas at the graduation ceremony held on December 11, 2020 at the Great Court, Main Campus.

Courtesy call to the VC by REA Vipingo Managing Director

The Managing Director of REA Vipingo Plantations Limited, Mr. Neil Cuthbert, paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor on Thursday morning 12th Nov 2020. Representing the VC was Director of University Advancement, Mr. Brian Ouma.

Top on the agenda was partnership between REA Vipingo and UoN. REA Vipingo were in the process of expanding their operations in Kibwezi, where UoN has land. Mr. Cuthbert was seeking to lease and utilize some of the land UoN holds in Kibwezi for plantation of sisal.

History made as 2,851 graduate virtually

A record 2,851 graduands were conferred degrees and awarded diplomas by the Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi at the 63rd Graduation Ceremony on September 25, 2020 held at the Great Court.

The graduates who followed the ceremony virtually consisted of 54 Doctor of Philosophy Degree Awards (PhDs), 370 Master Degree Awards, 15 Postgraduate Diploma Awards, 2045 Bachelor Degree Awards and 367 Diploma Awards.

UoN @ 50: The History

It is a time to celebrate. The University of Nairobi marks 50 years since it was transformed into the first national University in Kenya on July 1, 1970. 

The University of Nairobi owes its origin to several developments in higher education within the country and the region. The idea of an institution for higher learning in Kenya goes back to 1947 when the Kenya Government drew up a plan for the establishment of a technical and commercial institute in Nairobi. 

Partnership on Regional Construction Engineering Research and Development Lab

The University of Nairobi in partnership with China Communications and Construction Company, (CCCC) could soon set up an Engineering Research and Development Laboratory (R&D Lab). CCCC is the parent company which owns China Road and Bridge Company (CRBC), which is famous for the construction of mega structures in Kenya including the SGR.

This was revealed during a meeting between the University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama and CCCC General Manager Mr. Li Changgui.

Prof Stephen Kiama Installed as the 8th Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi

Prof. Stephen Kiama, has been officially installed as the eighth Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, taking over from Prof. Peter Mbithi. During his installation in Taifa Hall, Main Campus on June 5, 2020, Prof. Kiama promised to institute reforms and steer the ship in the turbulent waters.

New Confucius Institute handed over to the University of Nairobi

The new Confucius Institute Building located on Arboretum Drive, was officially handed over to the University of Nairobi on May 29th 2020. The ceremony was presided over by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Prof. George Magoha, who praised the good relationships between Beijing and Nairobi.
