UoN Continues to Rank Top Amid COVID-19 Challenges

The University of Nairobi has been ranked best university in the country and in the East and Central Africa Region for more than 5 years in row in the just released Webometrics Ranking. The Ranking Web of Universities (Webometrics) has released the July 2021 edition of the Webometrics report placing the University of Nairobi position 1 in Kenya, 13 in Africa and 1054 in the world.

Director Advancement Appointed as Acting Chief Operations Officer as Heads of Faculties Named

Director of University Advancement and Institutional Development, Mr.Brian Ouma has been appointed as the Acting Chief Operations Officer (COO). In his role, Mr. Ouma will be in-charge of all the administrative non-academic departments and oversee the day to day running of all their activities in the University.

Modern Mahatma Gandhi Graduate Library Opened

There was a colourful ceremony held at the University of Nairobi’s main campus, when the External Affairs Minister, Republic of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar officially commissioned the Mahatma Gandhi Graduate Library.

The library at the University of Nairobi main campus has been refurbished and commissioned for use through the generous support of the Government of India. A grant of one million US dollars was awarded to the University of Nairobi in 2016 when Prime Minister, Narendra Modi visited Kenya.

Interdisciplinary National Data Center Launched

There was celebration as the Center for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (CEMA) was finally launched at the University of Nairobi. CEMA is a multi-disciplinary national data center that supports the control, elimination and eradication of infectious diseases in Eastern and Central Africa. Established in 2020, CEMA which is hosted at the University of Nairobi seeks to enhance data-driven decision making to improve health in Kenya and in Africa.

Partnering in Afforestation beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic: UoN@50 Annual Tree Planting Exercise

The University of Nairobi in partnership with the Equity Group Foundation and the Kenya Forest Service facilitated a community tree planting exercise at the University of Nairobi’s Upper Kabete Campus on Tuesday May 18th, 2021.

UoN COVID-19 Vaccination Roll-Out

The University Health Services (UHS) has now been registered as a COVID-19 Vaccination Centre by the Ministry of Health and the Nairobi County Government, through the Nairobi Metropolitan Services.

The Vaccination will commence on Thursday April 8, 2021 at 8.30AM outside of the Main Students Clinic. It should be noted that the University Vaccination Centre will be required to observe Government prioritization guidelines and to comply with COVID-19 health protocols. In this regard, the following categories of the priority target groups will be eligible:

UoN, DaAn Gene and Africa Lion Advisory collaborate in fight against COVID-19

A collaborative agreement among the University of Nairobi, Africa Lion Advisory (ALA) and Guangzhou Da An Gene Co. Ltd was signed on 25th March 2021. The signing ceremony was held virtually and present was the VC, Prof Stephen Kiama, Director University Advancement, Mr. Brian Ouma, ALA’s Mr. Wachira Gichu and Da An Gene executives.

The 64th Graduation Ceremony

The Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi has conferred honorary degrees of the University of Nairobi on Prof. Julia Ojiambo, Chair of Council and Prof. Micere Mugo at the 64th Graduation Ceremony. The two have now joined the list of eminent persons who have received the prestigious award bringing the number of honorary degree holders of the University of Nairobi to 35. In addition, a record 5,709 have been conferred degrees and awarded diplomas at the graduation ceremony held on December 11, 2020 at the Great Court, Main Campus.
