The University of Nairobi marked another significant milestone in advancing industry-oriented education, following the successful completion of the Company Series Circuit Cohort 3 under the Engineering and Science Complex (ESC) Industry-Academia Pillar. The programme culminated on Friday, January 10, 2026, with over 100 students from the Faculties of Engineering and Science & Technology graduating from the intensive professional development initiative.

The University of Nairobi, through the AFRETEC Pathways to Opportunities pillar, on Monday, 16th March 2026, opened the AFRETEC Makerthon 2026, marking the beginning of a five-day innovation sprint that brought together student innovators from leading African and global universities.

 As part of the Engineering and Science Complex (ESC) Company Series Program, in collaboration with the African Engineering and Technology (Afretec) Project, 20 University of Nairobi students visited the Kenya Space Agency (KSA) on 3rd March 2026 for an eye-opening industry experience.

The University of Nairobi, through the Engineering and Science Complex (ESC) Company Series Program, successfully conducted an industry learning visit to the Olkaria I Additional Unit (AU) Geothermal Power Station, hosted by Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen). The visit involved 40 Company Series students from the Faculties of Engineering and Science & Technology, accompanied by university staff, for an immersive industry experience.

The University of Nairobi has concluded a four-day Grant Writing and Mentorship Workshop held from 3rd to 6th February 2026, organized in collaboration between the Directorate of University Advancement & Institutional Development and the Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) Division. The workshop aimed at strengthening institutional research capacity by equipping participants with practical skills in proposal development and research management.

The University of Nairobi hosted the midterm review meeting of the landmark Engineering and Science Complex (ESC) project on December 1, 2025, one of Kenya’s most ambitious higher education investments aimed at transforming STEM training, research and innovation for decades to come.

The third Joint Management Committee (JMC3) meeting of the GREEN-STEM Project took place on November 17, 2025, at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. The gathering brought together representatives from all partner universities, project leadership, student beneficiaries and members of the Expert Validation Committee. The meeting served as a key platform for collaboration, oversight and strategic planning as the project enters its next phase.

The Engineering and Science Complex (ESC) Innovation Pillar undertook a week-long collaboration mission to leading universities in Paris from 3rd to 7th November 2025, aimed at strengthening international partnerships and enhancing understanding of global best practices in innovation ecosystems. The 14-member delegation, representing diverse faculties, was led by Prof. Jackson Maalu (Pillar Head and Ag. DVC Finance, Planning & Development), alongside Prof. George Abong (Ag. Director, University Advancement).

The University of Nairobi’s Engineering and Science Complex (ESC) successfully held its Research Annual Conference on October 21–22, 2025, alongside the University’s Research and Innovation Week. The event brought together researchers, PhD students and academic partners from Kenya and France to showcase ongoing collaborations and share insights on advancing research and innovation within the ESC framework.

The Engineering and Science Complex (ESC) Innovation Pillar advanced a landmark step in strengthening innovation at the University of Nairobi through a three-day workshop held from 22nd to 24th September, 2025, in Naivasha. The workshop focused on developing an Innovation Business Model to guide the Innovation Community of Excellence (CoE) operations and shape the business approach of all other ESC CoEs.
